Kriya Gangiah Co-hosts Prestigious FIA Conference

Johannesburg, 24 June 2019 – Radio and TV personality, Kriya Gangiah, recently co-hosted the prestigious FIA conference, alongside Formula 1 reporter, James Allen.  The international event took place at Sun City in May this year, at the invitation of the Automobile Association of South Africa (AASA) and with the support of Motorsport South Africa (MSA).

“The FIA is the governing body for motorsport worldwide,” explains Kriya, an avid motorsport fan herself.  The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), a non-profit organization, was founded in 1904 with headquarters in Paris.  It brings together 240 national motoring and sporting organizations from 144 countries on five continents,” continues the SuperSport presenter.

Africa is one of the fastest growing continents in the world of motorsport, but also offers immense challenges in terms of road safety and urban mobility.  The FIA conference this year focused on some of the key challenges faced today worldwide, as well as on the African continent.  On the sport side, delegates of the FIA discussed the exceptional development of motor sport in Africa, ways to encourage talented drivers to participate in motor sport and help them rise to the top, as well as how sport can be used as a power for good and collaboration.

The FIA conference 2019 showcased elite speakers from around the globe and even some famous faces from the international motorsport arena.  There is one specific speaker that caused quite a stir, and all for the right reasons.  “Kwanda Mokoena is only 15 years old and a kart racing driver of note,” concludes Kriya.

“The young South African made history by becoming the youngest driver yet to win a junior level karting championship at the tender age of 12.  Kwanda is definitely the future of motorsport in Africa.”
