Andy Serkis presents a darker Jungle Book in his latest creation, Mowgli- filmed south of Durban!
The first trailer has just been released and as expected, it looks absolutely intriguing. Unlike the recent Disney remake of Jungle Book, Mowgli is Warner Bros re-imagining of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale.
Serkis says that Mowgli is different to other Jungle Book movies because you get to see him try and “assimilate into the world of man”.
The film packs several A-listers as the animal characters opposite young star Rohan Chand as Mowgli, with Christian Bale featuring as the cunning panther Bagheera, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett as the snake Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Naomi Harris as female wolf Nisha who adopts Mowgli as one of her cubs, Jack Reynor as Mowgli’s brother Wolf and Andy Serkis as the bear Baloo.
According to an interview with This Morning, Serkis talked about shooting the film in South Africa:
“For instance, we built jungle sets at Leavesden Studios where Harry Potter was filmed and then we went to South Africa and created – and this is the biggest difference between this and the other movie – an entire village in South Africa, south of Durban. In this film we see Mowgli try and assimilate himself into the world of man in the Indian village.”
South Africans can once again look forward to seeing the beauty their country has to offer in what is most likely going to be one of this years biggest blockbusters! Check out the trailer and tell us what you think:
